Further your Local Seafood knowledge with ProFish and the Maryland DNR
This year we will continue our education for local Chefs about the bounty the Chesapeake Bay has to offer restaurants and their guests. Twice a month beginning in May, we will have a planned Chef trip hosted by Steve Vilnit. For those who are not familiar with him, Steve is the Maryland DNR Fisheries Marketing Director and local seafood czar as the Baltimore Sun has put it. These trips, depending on the seasons, could be a local oyster farm tour, or, another favorite, is a trip to Cambridge Maryland to visit Clayton crab meat picking house to see how this amazing product gets to your kitchen. We also tour the Oyster Recovery Partnership's facility where you see the work of this powerful partnership restocking our bay's oyster population. During rockfish season a few Chefs would go out with a fisherman and help catch fish, tag them, and see them come to market. Another great trip takes you on a crabbing boat to pull pots and see the amount of work that goes into the seafood you serve your customers. We usually group a few tours or activities into each days outting. Below are a few dates we have set up. Please contact me directly by email so I can get you reserved or put you on a stand-by list depending on the interest. Some trips allow for 10 at a time while some fishing regulations might only allow for 4. Every Chef that participated in the past has come away with great experiences! ProFish is happy to cover all the expenses for these outtings as a thank you for your loyal business. May 21st and 29th, June 5th and 19th, July 5th and 12th are the set dates with more pop up trips that will become available. Read more about these trips here ![]()
